Announcing Our Investment in Herd

Ash Egan

Blockchains are transparent, but they’re not necessarily discernable.

Beneath the surface of today’s dapp frontends lies a complex web of contracts, humans, and agents with vastly more potential than most of us are able to tap into.

Andrew Hong, former Headmaster at Dune and Research Advisor here at Archetype, has been painfully aware of how difficult it is to uncover a given contract’s full set of mechanics, relationships, and ultimately, potential. The code is there, but digging through it is a time consuming, manual process. He realized that we need a better way to peer under the app layer and connect the dots if we want to unlock the true value of today’s onchain ecosystem—so he created Herd.

Herd is a collaborative terminal for agents and humans that enables anyone to better search, understand, and leverage smart contracts. With the help of Herd’s smart contract-specific agent, Sage, users can gain a higher fidelity understanding of a contract’s functionality and use cases.

Sage dissects a contract’s code and connects it to queries from platforms like Dune, as well as relevant discourse from social media platforms like Farcaster, to reveal all of the potential user paths that it offers, including how it can interact with other applications.  By revealing new ways for smart contracts to interact and build off each other, Herd is empowering users with a wide set of capabilities previously only accessible to the most knowledgeable developers. Formerly complex actions like building out integrations or executing a series of transactions become straightforward tasks—everyone’s skill ceiling rises.

We’re proud to be part of Herd’s $1.8M Preseed round and continue to work alongside Andrew and the Herd team as they increase the collective potential of today’s onchain ecosystem.
